Red Bull Player One 2019

A trophy envisioned as an emblem, with an identity that extends seamlessly to its case.


Designed and produced for the Red Bull 1v1 League of Legends international final in partnership with Riot EU, this trophy and its custom marquetry case were presented in São Paulo, Brazil, on November 30, 2019.

For this project, the challenge was to approach the trophy and its display box as a unified piece, where every detail echoes the game’s medieval fantasy universe.

Building on the game’s universe and an original concept by graphic designer David Grousset, we designed and crafted the trophy. Hand-sculpted then molded, it was cast in polyurethane resin before being gilded with gold leaf, giving it a precious finish fit for a championship award.

We also designed the entire display box from the ground up, from its silhouette to its decorative motifs. To extend the trophy’s medieval aesthetic, we chose to create this case using marquetry, working directly with wood as both a structural and graphic medium.

This project was also an opportunity to explore new production methods and creative partnerships. For the marquetry and veneer cutting, we collaborated with the AAA (Association des anciens élèves et amis de l’EBABX), which granted us access to their technical expertise and laser-cutting equipment.

Cabinetmaker Guillaume Gory then supported us through the manufacturing process, overseeing the construction of the box and guiding us through the assembly and application of the wood veneers.

Working alongside a master artisan was a true hands-on learning experience. As our first collaboration with a professional cabinetmaker, this project introduced us to a new craft and expanded our perspective on creative possibilities.

This experience has strengthened our desire to increase collaborations with artisans with a variety of know-how, and to explore with them new ways of shaping our projects.
